Fundipoint imports high-end amplifiers into South Africa — valve and solid state, in power amplifier, preamplifier and integrated amplifier form, along with the phono stages that go with them. Five of the brands we distribute build amplification, each from a different engineering starting point.

Amplifier brands we import

  • VTL — valve amplifiers, preamplifiers and phono stages, including the TL-7.5 Reference preamplifier, the TP-6.5 Signature phono stage, the IT-85 integrated amplifier and the Siegfried Series.
  • Halcro — solid-state amplifiers and preamplifiers designed by physicist Bruce Candy around the purest possible signal path, including the Halcro Eclipse.
  • Ayre Acoustics — building amplifiers since 1993, using fully-balanced circuitry without negative feedback.
  • Aesthetix — the Jupiter Series, whose Io phono stage and Callisto line stage became industry benchmarks, and the Saturn Series covering source through to amplification.
  • Mola Mola — the Makua preamplifier, which takes optional DAC and phono boards, the Kaluga mono power amplifiers and the Kula integrated amplifier.

Valve or solid state?

Both are represented here deliberately. VTL and Aesthetix build valve designs; Halcro, Ayre Acoustics and Mola Mola are solid state. Neither is simply better than the other — they differ in presentation, in power delivery into difficult loads, and in ownership terms such as valve replacement. Which suits you depends on the loudspeakers they will drive, which is why the two decisions are best made together.

Matching amplifiers to loudspeakers

Passive loudspeakers, including the Vivid Audio range, need a separate power amplifier. Active and wireless designs such as Devialet Phantom do not — see our loudspeakers page for the distinction. If your source is digital, the DAC and streamer sit ahead of the amplifier in the chain.
